Mr Swan attacked the Opposition for being “quite happy to knock off a legitimate saving” such as the means-testing of the private health insurance rebate, which he said would have “average punters” subsidising the private health insurance of millionaires.
“That's not a situation that we can tolerate as we go forward when we are struggling to find basic hospital beds and do the essential things out there in primary healthcare and hospital care,” he said.
“So we're going to prosecute this issue because it goes to the very core of the lack of credibility of the Liberal Party when it comes to fiscal policy, let alone health policy.”
